Chamomile Flower

In ancient times, chamomile was used by the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans to promote relaxation and sleep, reduce inflammation (gastrointestinal issues in particular) and support healing. In the Middle ages, it became a popular remedy for asthma, colic, fevers, nausea and skin issues, to name a few. Chamomile’s use in the modern era is typically seen in the form of a relaxing tea, bath soak, cream or extract.

Valarian Root

Since the second century A.D., valerian has been used to subdue insomnia, anxiety and nervousness. It is thought valerian may work by increasing gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain, although this has not been proven. GABA is the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system, which has a calming effect on the body and promotes a focused state of mind.

Hops Strobiles

Hops are the female “fruiting” bodies (strobiles) of the hop plant. Typically used to make beer, hops have also been used in medicinal applications for centuries. In Greece and Rome they were used to treat digestion issues, while in China they were used for leprosy and tuberculosis. Hops are used today to promote restful, restorative sleep and a relaxed state of being. It is thought the chemical compound dimethylvinyl carbinol may be responsible for this calming effect, though this has not been proven.

Lobelia

Named after the 17th century botanist Matthias de Lobel, this herb promotes a reduction in muscular tension and restlessness.

Dosage

10-30 lbs. use 10-20 drops, 2-3 times per day or as needed in water or juice.

31-60 lbs. use 20-40 drops, 2-3 times per day or as needed in water or juice.

61-100 lbs. use 40-60 drops, 2-3 times per day or as needed in water or juice.

Over 100 lbs. use 60-90 drops, 2-3 times per day or as needed in water or juice.
